Brief update on Officer Breanna Toney.
Breanna remains in Johnson City Medical Center in Tennessee after a week of care. As you are aware in last Monday’s crash, Breanna sustained a broken femur, several ankle and foot fractures, multiple broken ribs, a collapsed lung and other internal injuries. Fortunately, she did not receive any burns from the crash and does not have to overcome that hurdle.
A few of our staff was able to travel up and visit with her on Monday February 7th. For the first time in a week, Breanna looked and sounded like the Breanna we know and are used to. She is receiving great care and attention from all the medical professionals at Johnson City Medical facility. Hopefully, she is finished with surgeries and can focus on recovery.
As of late yesterday, medical staff are beginning discussions about the next phase of rehabilitation for Breanna. Some of those initial steps could possibly take place this week, but that is dependent on several other factors. Breanna’s attitude and spirits are high despite her circumstances. Much of that is due to the overwhelming amount of support she has received from her fellow emergency services workers and the community.
The Marion Police Department is continuing to plan efforts in the near future to help Breanna and her family as she recovers. We will continue to update everyone on those efforts as they are finalized. Our agency would also like to thank everyone for the cards, and well wishes that have been received by our office in the last week. Breanna also wanted everyone to know how much the support has meant to her and she is truly grateful.
